For decades, East Gwillimbury students have been bused to other municipalities to attend high school. As a town of over 41,000 people, that does not makes sense. It’s time we brought education home.

From Mount Albert to Queensville, Sharon to Holland Landing, families in our community are asking: why don’t we have a high school in East Gwillimbury?

Last year I conducted a community survey. One of the themes that jumped out? Residents want a high school built here — not just for the educational benefits, but as a way to strengthen our community.

To that end, I am launching an "Add Your Name" campaign to give me clarity on a bold vision:

📚 A new high school in East Gwillimbury
🎭 Shared community use with a Town-operated Theatre and Performing Arts Centre
🏟️ A lit artificial turf field for school and public access

This wouldn’t just be a school. It would be a hub — for students, families, sports teams, artists, performers, and residents of every age.

I recognize that this will take years to come to fruition, but we require strong leadership and advocacy now to help mobilize this effort.

Why This Matters

When I was growing up in rural Holt, I attended Huron Heights Secondary School in Newmarket. I was at the beginning and end of the bus route — a commute that often took close to an hour each way. That same two-hour daily experience continues for far too many students in East Gwillimbury today.

As our town grows, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to change that cycle.

We need a school that:

  • Keeps students connected to their home community
  • Offers arts, athletics, and academics right here in town
  • Creates gathering spaces that all residents can enjoy
  • Makes East Gwillimbury proud

When our kids cross the stage to graduate, they should do so in East Gwillimbury — not in someone else’s town.

Take Action: Add Your Name

I am looking for you guidance to ensure that I am on the right track with my efforts.  We should be organized. We should be united. I won’t stop pushing until our youth can attend school — and graduate — right here in the town they call home.
