Environmental stewardship starts locally—at our parks, along our streets, and right at our doorstep.
Across East Gwillimbury, through Conversations with the Community, residents have been clear: they want practical, hands-on environmental action that brings people together and leaves a lasting legacy for future generations. That’s why this spring, we’re rolling up our sleeves and getting to work—together.
A Community Tree Planting Event 🌲
This April, residents, community groups, and local partners will come together to plant 350 new trees in East Gwillimbury. This is more than a one-day event—it’s a tangible step toward long-term canopy growth, climate resilience, and a healthier community.
Trees help cool our neighbourhoods, manage stormwater, improve air quality, and strengthen the character of our community. Planting them together builds something just as important: connection.

Community Partners 🌎
This event is made possible through collaboration with incredible organizations that share a commitment to environmental leadership:
-
Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority
-
New Leaf
-
Scouts Canada
-
Girl Guides of Canada
Their involvement reflects what’s possible when community groups, residents, and local leadership work side by side.
Looking Ahead
I believe regular, consistent tree planting should be just one part of a broader, generational vision of a community-driven approach to environmental action, including:
-
Expanding tree planting and canopy coverage across East Gwillimbury
-
Reinvesting tree by-law funds directly back into local tree planting
-
Working toward recognition as an Urban Forest Municipality for East Gwillimbury
-
Reducing stormwater runoff through residential rainwater capture supports
-
Activating volunteer led, municipally supported community vegetable gardens across Holland Landing, Mount Albert, Sharon, Queensville, and beyond
Environmental action doesn’t need to be complicated to be effective. When we plant trees, conserve water, and grow food together, we create real, measurable benefits—right where people live.
