Over the past eight weeks, one issue has been raised to me more than any other: traffic safety. Whether it’s speeding at your doorstep, construction trucks using non-permitted roads, or cut-through traffic caused by development pressures, the frustration is real—and I hear you.

But here’s the truth: lasting solutions don’t happen overnight, and they don’t happen alone. They take all of us, working together, to build change that lasts for generations.

That’s why I’ve launched my 2025 Summer Traffic Safety Survey—to get your feedback on what you’re seeing, what you’re concerned about, and what solutions you believe will work in East Gwillimbury.

Why Now?

Recently, the Town’s Road Watch/Traffic Safety Committee was disbanded, but I personally believe we need to bring it back. A dedicated committee can connect residents, York Regional Police, and Town staff to focus on practical, community-driven solutions.

York Regional Police is also encouraging the return of Neighbourhood Watch programs, and one has already been successfully restarted in Newmarket. Would something similar work here?

I want to know what you think.

What Solutions Are on the Table?

There’s no single answer to improving traffic safety, which is why I’m asking for your feedback on a range of options, including:

Speed Indicators & Cameras – permanent pole-mounted speed indicators, mobile units to raise awareness, or automated speed enforcement in community safety zones.

Infrastructure Improvements – speed bumps, “Kids at Play” signage, seasonal on-street bollards, traffic-calming street painting, or even dead-ending some unnecessary through streets.

Simple Fixes – like clearing stop signs hidden by tree limbs.

Community Engagement – including Neighbourhood Watch and education campaigns to encourage safer driving behaviour.

I know increased police presence is always welcome, but meaningful change will also come from our community rallying together to slow down and keep our roads safe.

Have Your Say Today

I believe that creating positive, lasting improvements starts with listening to you.

This is your chance to share your thoughts, rank the solutions that matter most, and help guide the next steps.

Let’s Work Together

Traffic safety is a shared responsibility. With your input, I’ll continue to push for real, measurable solutions—and yes, I believe re-establishing the Road Watch/Traffic Safety Committee is one of those important steps.

I’m committed to taking your feedback directly to Council this fall as we look at ways to make our roads safer.

Let’s do this together. Let’s get it right—for all of us, and for the next generation.
